L.A Confidential and Double Indemnity Shots

Both of these shots are very similar. First, the composition of Neff and Phyllis and Lyne and Edmund are almost identical. Both men and women have almost exactly the same hair styles and costumes. Both have the male role in the dominant position above and to the right of the woman. This is especially prominent in Double Indemnity. The medium shot helps the director show Neff towering over Phyllis. Both stare into each others eyes with passion and desire. I actually find the shot between Lyne and Edmund much more interesting. In this, the director has pulled in to a close up shot blurring the background so the audience focuses totally on the eye contact made between these two characters. The close up closes the height difference of Lyne and Edmund. This gives us the allusion that they are almost the same height and maybe of equal power. The way Lyne is looking at Edmund is different from the way Phyllis is looking at Neff. Her stare is much colder and more complex.

Shot From Minority Report

This is a long high angle shot showing John Anderton hiding in a cold bath tub from heat seeking spider robots. I found this shot really interesting. The first thing that pops out is the diagonally split color contrast from brown to blue. The blue helps create a colder bathtub. I think of arctic water. The harsh contrast helps portray the conflict between Anderton and the spider. The room is very sharp and angular. The bathtub and beam of light split the shot into smaller geometric shapes. This promotes further tension and stress.

The Underrated Movie of The Century

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a hilarious movie staring one of my favorite actors, Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Jr., A petty thief posing as an actor, is brought to Los Angeles for an unlikely audition and finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation. Its Unusual, surprising and a refreshing change from other movies. It came out in 2005 and is still one of my favorites. If you haven't seen it yet, get on it.
